Mikel Blakssen (SWOS 96/97, CM 00/01)

Mikel Blakssen was born in Hurup, Denmark. He started to play football when he was 6 years old in his local club Hurup IF. When he was 13 his family moved to Thisted and Mikel join the local team. He was a very promising junior striker and even played in the Denmark U-15 nad U-17 teams in the seventies. He signed contract with Thisted FC at the age of 18 and played there for 3 seasons. In 1982 he moved to Skive IK were he played for five years, being the top striker of the team most of the time. At the age of 26 he was bought by Viborg were he played till 1996. After that he joined Silkeborg and become the playing manager at the age of 35. After a dissapointing season Blakssen lost his job at Silkeborg but got proposition from Torpedo Moscow. He stayed there for three seasons as player-manager but played only in 15 games during this time. In 1999 he decided to end his carrier as a player and focus on managing. In three years he managed to transform Torpedo from league outsiders to one of the top teams in Russia. He won Russian Cup and placed 3rd in the league table. In summer 2000 he was hired by Brondby Copenhagen.

Not the best season for the team, we just could not find our place on the pitch. I got sacked and get proposition form Torpedo Moscow and two Danish clubs.

Another bad season ended just above the last place, could not find a tactic that whould fit.

Russian Cup - WINNER

Well at least we show something good in the Cup. In third round we beat Okean Nakhodna 2:1. In Quater Final we win with Tekstilschik 2:0. In Semi Final we were losing 0:1 but managed to beat Spartak Valdivostok 4:1. In the final we win with Spartak Moscow 2:1 and decicive goal is scored in 88 minute.

SEASON 2000/2001 BRONDBY COPENHAGEN CM 00/01

Danish Premier Division - WINNERS

8 points ahead of the second team we win the league with great play. Team had series of 13 games without losing and lost only 4 games during the season. We could celabrate the championship 4 games before the end of the season.

Danish Cup - WINNERS

First we beat B 93 4:0 then in AaB 6:1. In quater final we win 4:0 with FB and in Semi finals we have to take on Herfloge in two leg game. Although this team deffends the league championship and plays really good in Europe they have no chance and lose 5:2 on the aggregate. 

In the big final we eaisly beat Esbjerg 4:0 after Graulund, Lindrup and Nilsen's goals.

Champions League - Group Stage 1

In qualifications we first beat Dinamo Bucaresti after two very even games. Than in we have no problem with Zagreb in 3rd qualify round and beat them 4:1 and 2:0. We get to the group with Galatasaray, Sporting and Lazio. We are not the favourites and even tough we fight hard we only get the 3rd place and go to UEFA CUP.

UEFA CUP - Quater Final

In 3rd Round we get to play with Spartak Moscow. First game decides as we win 3:0 and in the revange a draw is enough. In 4th Round we drawn german TSV 1860 and go trough even more easy after winning both games 3:0 and 1:0. Unfortunetly in Quater Finals we have to face Deportivo. In first game we lose 1:3 and in second leg even though we fight hard and win 2:1 it is not enough.

30.04.1998 - Torpedo Moscow 4:1 Spartak Vlad. - Russian Cup Semi Final

My first season in Torpedo was a tough one. The team was in the process of rebuilding and we were running low in the league. Things were different in the Cup, somehow we were able to win games and play quite different. When we reached the semi finals we knew that anything can happen. We put on a great show in that game against Vladivostok. It did not started good as we lost an early goal but we managed to get back in the game and after 1:1 in the first half, in the next 45 minutes we scored three goals and got ourselfs place in the final.

23.05.1998 - Torpedo Moscow 2:1 Spartak Moscow - Russian Cup FINAL

We hoped we could somehow avoid playing Spartak but they were unbeatble. Boy we were scared it looked like we were going on a sucide mission. Spartak took advantage from the start and kept attacking all the time. We could do nothing and barely even went on their half on the field. At the end of the first half Spartak scored. We had 15 minutes to get our selfs together and uderstand that we have nothing to lose. We were focused and sharp in the second half. Spartak thought they have us and they were suprised to see us so determinated. I couldn't bring on our best striker but the substitute that took his place for the final played the game of his life. First he scored an equaliser in 70th minute and in 88th minute once more he put on a beautyful dribbling lost the defender and put the ball in the net! Two minutes later we were all over the pitch couldn't belive that this is not a dream.

30.07.2000 - Brondby 5:0 Lyngby - Danish Premier Division

I debuted in an official game as Brondby manager few days ealier when we drawn against Dinamo Bukarest in the Champions League Qualifications. I hoped to start my league campaign good but I did not expected such a blast. After 24 minutes it was 4:0 after Graulund hattrick and Bagger goal. Boy I was proud of the boys. The rest of the game was a formality. Madsen scored the last goal in 75th minute and not only we started a great campaign, but also I got my new biggest win record.

06.08.2000 - Herfolge 2:3 Brondby - Danish Premier Division

In the second league game we were playing the current champions Herfolge. Brondby lost the last campaing to this team so the fans and board was fired up for this one. For me it felt quite normal and this is what I try to explain to my players. We were in good form and mood after winning 2:1 i Bukarest and securing place in the Champions League 3rd Qualification Round. I did not realised how strong Herfolge is until I saw them in action. They took the lead in 7th minute after a great goal by Jensen. Ten minutes later we managed to equalise thanks to Graulund but in 38th minute we lost another goal and it was 2:1 for Herfolge on half time. We took are chance to equalise on the start of the second half, again Graulund scored. Game started to get rough but we started to control the game and in 52th Bagger scored another one. It turned out to be a winning goal. Very important points in the campain.

12.09.2000 - Galatasaray 2:3 Brondby - Champions League Group Stage 1

After beating Dinamo Bukarest and Zagreb in the Qualifications we finally reach the group stage. Are first game was away against turkish Galatasaray. I played before in Cup Winners Cup and UEFA Cup with Torpedo, but it was my debut in Champions League. Home team scored first, in 7th minute Jardel put the ball in the net. Krogh managed to equalise right on the half hour mark. Game was even but open. In 72th minute Bagger performed a great header and we took the lead. We hoped we can bring it home but ten minutes later it was 2:2 after a goal from Emre. Draw whould be a fair result but team fight to the end and felt that it may pay off. Well, it did. In 86th minute Larsen pass to Rasmussen and the put on a perfect volley that has given us the win.

16.09.2000 - AaB 1:6 Brondby - Danish Cup 5th Round

Another record when it comes to big wins. This time an away game in Cup. Brilliant performance from the team.

14.10.2000 - FC Copenhagen 1:5 Brondby - Danish Premier Division

I don't have to explain to you just how important are these derby games. Well I did not have to explain it to the players either, they just know. We were on na high streak and we wanted to run over the local rival this time. First half was even and it did not look like a walkover. Sure we took the lead in 12th minute after Rasmussen shoot but that was it. I guess in the second half FC Copenhagen got tired and we weren't even half way there. Goals just can't stop commin and it ended with a brilliant 5:1 win. After this game Brondby fans went from liking me to an obssesion.

25.10.2000 - Brondby 3:0 Galatasaray - Champions League Group Stage 1

We won in the first game and then drawn with Lazio and lost twice against Sporting. We needed to win this one to keep our chances to advance. Galatasaray was a good team on the paper but they just couldn't turn on their style. Well, our style was turned to the limits so if opponent shown any weaknes we just took all we could from it. It ended 3:0. We needed an away win against Lazio to finish in the top 2 but that did not happen. They were too strong and we lost 0:4 placing 3rd.

23.11.2000 - Brondby 3:0 Spartak Moscow - UEFA Cup 3rd Round

I knew Spartak very well and I knew it will be a tough game. I also knew that they whould consider themselfs favourites and if we suprise them we can win. That's exacly what we did. It was 2:0 before half time and we put in another one in the second half. Just like in the 1997 Russian Cup final I took Spartak by suprise but this time I got a strong team that was not afraid of anything. In the second leg we were leading 2:0 after the first half and it ended 2:2.

01.03.2001 - Brondby 3:0 TSV 1860 - UEFA Cup 4th Round

We felt like a stronger side. On the paper we were not the favourites but we were on such an incredible run, that we felt really strong and the name TSV did not impressed us. We won eaisly controling the whole game. In the second leg we took things eaisly and won 1:0. 

22.03.2001 - Brondby 2:1 Deportivo - UEFA Cup Quater Final

We lost 3:1 in the first leg but we still felt like we can make things happen in front of our home crowd. We scored the first goal and we only needed one more, but Deportivo was a better team. Tristan is a brilliant striker and once more he shown it scoring an equaliser. We managed to win the game 2:1 but it was not enough, we were close but again we learned our lesson from Deportivo.

27.05.2001 - Haderslev 0:6 Brondby - Danish Premier Division

31.05.2001 - Brondby 4:0 Esbjerg - Danish Cup FINAL

Season was closing down slowly and we already knew that we will be the legue Champions (4 games before the end of campain). In the Cup semi finals we did a brilliant job crushing Herfloge 7:3 on aggregate and that was the last important game to win. Esbjerg was seriously scared and you can see it in the way they were playing. They lost this game before they even came out of the locker room. We just did our job. Great win, great season we ruled in Denmark!
